What a magnificent effect this lamp creates when you turn on the light! Enjoy the intimate atmosphere and the refined shadow pattern on the walls and ceiling. The hundreds of tiny holes are all drilled by hand, one by one. That’s why each lamp is UNIQUE, and the patterns are full of character. If you want to know how our lamps are made and where all the beautiful Zenza products come from, check out our video.
The production process of the lamps is carried out by a team of artisans, each specializing in a specific part of the making process. The first step is to create a wooden mold by hand for the shape. Chiseling and shaving, followed by extensive sanding to achieve a smooth design. Then, an iron sheet is shaped around this wooden mold. This way, the lamp takes form—transferred from our sketches to a wooden mold and finally into a metal shape. Each lamp consists of two or more parts, which are then welded together and polished at the seam. Next, if patterns are included, lines are drawn onto the lamp using a sharp chiseling tool. You won’t believe your eyes—this is done freehand, seemingly without a plan. But nothing could be further from the truth! Our skilled artisans have so much experience that each line seamlessly connects to the next, forming an elegant abstract pattern.
Then, within those lines, hundreds of tiny holes are drilled to allow enough light to shine through. The iron is first dipped in a red copper bath, then a nickel bath, and finally a brass bath to achieve the beautiful golden color. These three baths ensure that the iron is well protected. Lastly, we add a transparent protective coating before carefully packaging the lamp, ready for its final destination—your home!
Although the craftsmanship is traditional, the designs are contemporary and perfectly suited for modern interiors. Zenza produces its lamps in Egypt, although they are often mistaken for Moroccan lamps. Oriental lamps share some similarities, but each country has developed its own techniques and styles. And since Zenza has been making pendant lamps, ceiling lamps, table lamps, and wall lamps since 1993, we have truly left our own mark on Egyptian lamps. In doing so, we have also made a lasting contribution to the history of oriental lighting.
