The inspiration for this design was a "damchiya", a small box that is traditionally used in India as a safe for valuables and money.
It is always decorated with copper fittings and many mirrors and has a very small door, so that a thief does not have easy access to all the dear stuff.
For us that would not work for daily use.
That's why we kept the look, but optimized the functionality.
